Woman struck and killed by train in White Rock

A woman was killed after she was hit by a train last night near the White Rock beach.

The accident happened around 9:15 in the evening while the woman was jogging with her husband.

RCMP and the Coroner are now investigating.

Investigators say the woman was at a marked crossing near the Sandpiper Pub on Marine Drive when she was struck.

The accident happened in front a crowd of witnesses. Her husband wasn’t hurt.

The woman died at the scene.

The train was an Amtrak Cascades and was heading north to Vancouver.

Passengers remained on the train as crews tried to save the woman. The victim’s name has not yet been released.

White Rock Mayor Wayne Baldwin says last night’s tragedy involving an Amtrak passenger train could have been prevented.

“She had her earbuds in. Obviously didn’t hear the train, didn’t see it and just stepped right in front of it,”…
